Drizzly Stromness
It was a damp day. Rainy but warm. We wandered around the narrow streets of the old town of Stromness on Orkney. The Pier Arts Centre is a really lovely little mini Tate Gallery. There were lots of Ben Nicolson, Alfred Wallis, William Scott and Barbara Hepworth pieces, which surprised me because they are all associated with St Ives in Cornwall. It seems that the founder Margaret Gardiner was a good friend of Barbara Hepworth. After hours of looking at the work and feeling inspired, I went around the back and did this drawing from the sea shore. I think the architect did a good job of modernising the building without ruining its character.
